The French Air Patrol pays tribute to Asterix!

The date is 29 October 1959. Asterix has just seen the day in the very first issue of “Pilote”, soon to be sub-titled “Le Journal d’Astérix et Obélix”. In addition to our favourite Gauls, the weekly’s pages feature other famous heroes, such as Tangy and Laverdure, the “Chevaliers du ciel” (the Sky Fighters), created by Albert Uderzo and Jean-Michel Charlier.

50 years later, in the year 2009 A.D., wild rumours abound, claiming that Asterix has earned his own pilot’s licence! Is this just some Roman parliamentary rumour instigated by good old Julius or is it the latest whim of the Indomitable Gauls?

In fact, it is neither! It is an inspired film from director Eric Magnan, who bears witness to the encounter of two institutions. In this tribute by the French (Gaulish?) Air Patrol to the most famous of all Gauls on his 50th birthday, Eric Magnan proves that Asterix has vanquished for good the fear that the sky is going to fall on his head!
